The IC Man Cometh to Mac Computers

In an old game, Shadowrun, IC were virtual reality Intrusion Countermeasures players used to fend off hacks and attacks. No one said at the time, Ha! I’m a Mac, you can’t touch me. But that’s what tons of users are doing in real life today and there’s bad news dumping by the metric ton out the pipes about MacHacks.

Mark Schottinger - A little digital gem

Has he come and gone? Did he ever arrive? Perhaps he never left – Mark Schottinger could possibly be one of those examples of people who once had a drive-by relationship with the Internet. On Netflix, he’s the laissez-fair – let be or leave it alone – parking lot attendant in the indie movie graced with numerous awards and laurels of recognition, The Parking Lot Movie

Cloud-centric Flickr eats 4,000 images of cool-named Mirco Wilhelm

Just to be clear, I hate the “cloud” that is inevitable and certain to arrive. I’ve read The Big Switch and agree with the logic as to why cloud computing will come, but have long mistrusted most anything to do with it. I believe an independant web where users still have control over the applications and data and can work just as efficiently OFFLINE is crucial. I’m not alone, but I’m minuscule. So here’s an example of The Cloud gone wrong: Flickr deletes 4,000 images from a single User in error. Forever. If those images weren’t locally saved at all, what would Mirco Wilhelm do?

Taken today in an undisclosed location with my iPhone.

The Cloud could be a mere utility, not a fix-all answer for the end user.

iPhone alarms ignoring DST

There’s a story from Australia and Europe where clocks have already ‘fallen back’ an hour that iPhone alarms aren’t keeping up; they’re going off an hour late. For the USA, DST ends November 7th, 2010 2AM Here’s a chart of DST dates for USA and Summertime Period dates for the EU.

The Summertime Period ended last night for the EU and next Monday for the United States. Monday is not a good day to be an hour late!

Apple's White iPhone 4 Is Confronted

Apple has never said why the white iPhone is so troublesome to produce. From The Daring Fireball comes the Anthropomorphized true story of the White iPhone 4’s delay.

INT. Early Morning, Today. The Lobby Bar of a Top-Tier Las Vegas Casino Resort

The White iPhone 4 is slumped back in a chair, alone, playing a table-top video poker machine embedded in the bar. He is up late, not early. We see from behind as a metallic roundrect — slightly scratched, a small dent in one corner, but otherwise in fine condition — walks into the hotel lobby and surveys the scene. It is the Original iPhone. He is up early, not late. He approaches the bar and sits next to White iPhone 4.

Original iPhone: Look at you. You’re a fnikcug mess.

A pity for iPads

After all the buzz and excitement surrounding what looked like a game changer, one TechCrunch author in particular is daring enough to fly in the face of pride and humility that keeps other fan boys hanging around and says:

…But this fanboy is listing his iPads for sale on Craigslist. Why? Because they’ve become like the paperweights on his desk.

Facebook should take a lesson from Hunch.com

Hunch.com gives you a sparse but helpful personalized profile. I’m not on the lookout for “new” sites, but bumped into the perfect site for thsoe of us who like surveys, personalized suggestions and polls that never end comparing us to strangers around the globe. It’s Hunch.com and the model they seem to use is a positively A+ 100% money-maker that’s discreet, perfectly tailored to each visitor and is only there when I want it. Hunch.com could teach every last Web 2.0 site a thing or two…
