Learning simple things like changing the AT&T carrier logo to a 007 James Bond picture is intelligent learning and entertaining. There’s not much you can break and it’s good excersize. The school that sees James Bond as a good iPhone hack is endearing and pretty popular. You can get everything you need from here.
One very clever expedition through changing iPhone graphics is here and although the site responds very slowly, the changes that this designer made are some of the best and most clever we’ve seen. Without permission, we re-post his before and after since he jumped URL’s and servers within the last month. So even if the link doesn’t work, here’s what he did:

Jumping on the bandwagon (and why not?) we offer a James Bond 007 icon set for the Signal Strength. James Bond sometimes used a Beretta, so how about something to do with that? :) Change iPhone Signal Strength icons with these PNG’s

No signal is a red gun sunk into a puddle and full strength is the full Beretta that James Bond used on occasion. A community for iPods and iPhones of some several hundred users is here, called the iLounge. It’s friendly and centered around iThis and iThat posting songlists, how many videos are on the iPod of each member and some other little niche things that help make it a friendly community devoid of snobbery that so often accompanies other iGroup sites. The iLounge is a nice little place to learn and play and it’s still new enough and untainted that you could become a respected member fairly quickly with regular visits and posts.
Ensuring that your website or blog has a custom icon for the iPhone Bookmark function is fairly easy thanks to AskDave where he almost dummy-proofs the process of adding pages to HOME and providing icons at the website level so the HOME icon looks somewhat attractive. He’s a heavyweight answer guy and this one’s a good answer.
The above only works with iPhone 1.1.3 software which I’m downloading now at iTune’s request.
