Green is Universal | Green TV Logo

Did you watch TV last night? NBC, SciFi Channel, Today and Telemundo channel logos all sported Green TV logos because, Green is Universal. Baffling at first – even the opening credits of Heroes with the eclipse went totally green during the flash of the Sun’s corona. One quick search revealed a very strong and proper campaign to bring environmental awareness to more people through their favorite channels and a website, Green is Universal.

NBC goes Green is Universal with green logo.

Greenhouse gases or not or weak or severe, no one can deny the amount of chemicals and mercury and vapors that fill our everyday consumables and routinely junked hardware. Computers and laptops and plasma TVs and LCD monitors and displays are filled with more toxic junk now than ever before. As prices drop and desktops are considered more and more ‘disposable,’ an icky crisis could threaten our health if we aren’t careful. One great resource for hardware and computer component disposal is Earth 911. The green NBC logo tells us this!

The spread of information from Green is Universal is fantastic. Look at this partial list of some of the TV channels with logos that went green: Bravo, MSNBC (major partner), accessHollywood, JerySpringer (ahem, good to be on a good list for a change), USA Networks and the Weather Plus channel. Sure everything is owned by Universal Studios. Earth 911, seems just to be a clever partnership at first glance which is fine. So are pop-up bits of environmental advice on green TV logos going to get messages across? Thankfully for Earth, you can’t TiVo through the messages but you can’t hear them either; but with all the environmental GM Chevy ads, that might change. Time and nature will tell.
