Where am I? Where are you? Cell phone triangulation is the stuff of Hollywood. Now it’s the stuff of your cell phone. With the Apple iPhone update 1.1.4 triangulation became a life saving feature in the MAPS menu. I followed someone to a strange spot in Hollywood, Florida and used the function to find my way back to a familiar place.
Cell phone makers are banking on the fact that your use of the Internet will be a function of where you are. Privacy issues aside, knowing how website visitors behave based on their locations is a heck of a metric. Both Google and Nokia are working to perfect nav-based Internet results and services. Nokia just bought mapping software company, Navteq and Google is working with DoMoCo, perhaps to deliver ad content based on your location – which is totally insane, by the way. Source.
